Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of a new army battalion in the state to strengthen security operations.
The governor’s commendation was contained in a statement shared via his official X (formerly Twitter) page on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the new battalion will be sited in Omu Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, and is expected to enhance the deployment of troops and military equipment to tackle insecurity.
AbdulRazaq said the move would significantly improve the state’s response to threats such as banditry and terrorism, describing it as a timely intervention.
He also expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for the swift handling of the state’s request for increased military presence.
The governor further acknowledged the support of the Office of the National Security Adviser and commended security agencies including the Armed Forces, DSS, and the Nigeria Police for their efforts in combating violent crimes.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting ongoing security operations, noting that the new battalion would bolster counterterrorism and anti-kidnapping efforts, while complementing broader multi-agency strategies to rid forests of criminal elements.
