
In quick compliance with the Kwara State government’s initiative on the new colour codes for its transportation sector, aimed at safeguarding the security of citizens, the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN) presented tricycles with the new colour codes to the Ministry today, showcasing its readiness to support the ongoing reforms in the transportation sector.
The Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, who received the leadership of TOAN, expressed delight at the Association’s immediate compliance with the new directive, commending the effort as a good step worthy of emulation by others.
Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi used the medium to further re-emphasise the need for other transport bodies, like the Road Transport Employees Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), amongst others, operating shuttle buses in Kwara State to ensure their vehicles are painted with white and green as directed by the State Government within the stipulated timeframe.
“As a government that prioritises the safety of citizens, we are delighted about this swift step taken by the TOAN leadership. We urge others to comply with the ‘white and green’ colour codes accordingly”, the commissioner emphasised.
In his remarks, during the presentation, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alh. Salau Kabir Abdullahi commended the swift action taken by TOAN, noting the reliability and efficiency of the Association.
He, however, assured TOAN of the government’s continued steadfastness in attending to issues affecting the smooth operation of all transporters in Kwara State.
On his part, the Chairman of TOAN, Alh. Saliu Gidado disclosed that the presentation of some of its newly painted tricycles was to affirm its undivided support to the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to guarantee the safety of residents and the actualisation of set goals on transportation reforms.
He equally commended the unprecedented urban developmental projects of the administration, adding that roads being reconstructed by the Governor have helped to reduce the costs of maintenance and movement time for all transporters and commuters in Kwara State.
