Smart City Vision: Kwara’s Plan to Transform Housing and Attract Investment

Government and Private Sector Collaboration Essential to Tackle Housing Deficit and Foster Growth

Dr. Azeez Adigun, Jibzit Properties’ Chief Executive Officer (CEO), has declared that Kwara State has a housing deficit of over a million.

Adigun stated this in Ilorin in an interview on the sidelines of the Kwara Real Estate Conference (KWAREC) 2025, which had the theme “Aspiring to Elevate.”

He noted that the deficit is a major issue impacting a large portion of the population and requires a significant investment to address.

He stressed the need for private sector participation with the government on the housing challenges.

“Kwara has enormous potential to tap into. It is strategically positioned, with equal proximity between the North and the South.

“The state has enjoyed peace and stability for a long time, and very harmonious,” he said.

Adigun observed that these qualities make the state a great potential for tourism and real estate investment opportunities.

He pointed out the synergy between real estate and tourism, adding that the two sectors will help to boost development in the state.

He added that Nigeria as a whole has over 28 million housing deficit in the country, which requires a decisive and comprehensive plan to address.

Also speaking, the Kwara Commissioner for Urban and Housing Development, Dr Segun Ogunsola, said as part of its urban renewal project, the state government has improved infrastructure with a quality road network.

“It has been predicted that Nigeria, in the next 25 years, will become the third most populous country in the world,” he said.

He revealed that the state government is planning “a city that will house 540,000 people, in well-planned areas for residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational”. (NAN)
