The founder of Bani Agric Business Solutions (BAGSfarm), Mr Adeoti Adebayo, has urged the Federal Government to invest in technological innovation to transform the country’s agricultural sector.
Adebayo disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.
BAGSfarm is an agricultural enterprise dedicated to developing rural communities through agriculture.
The organization focuses on empowering rural dwellers with agricultural education, innovative solutions, and practical training that enhances food security and economic development.
Adebayo said that technology was revolutionizing the sector, making farming more efficient, sustainable, and profitable.
He stressed the need for technology harnessing to transform the agricultural landscape to boost efficiency and productivity.
“In a sector long characterized by traditional practices, technology is changing the face of agriculture, making farming more efficient, sustainable, and profitable.
“Technology is making a significant impact in precision farming by leveraging data-driven approaches where farmers can optimize crop yields, reduce waste, and improve resource allocation.
“We can now utilize digital platforms to share agricultural knowledge and best practices with farmers.
“Another area where technology is transforming agriculture is in education. Digital learning platforms are expanding access to agricultural education, enabling farmers to acquire new skills and knowledge.
“These platforms can provide farmers with training and capacity-building programs, empowering them to adopt new technologies and improve their productivity,” Adebayo said.
Adebayo described financing as a major challenge for many farmers in the country.
He noted that Agri-fintech solutions were changing this narrative by providing farmers with better financing options and enabling them to invest in their farms.
“Logistics and supply chain management are critical components of agricultural production. Leveraging logistics technology to streamline farm-to-market supply chains, reducing costs, and improving efficiency.
“Utilising digital platforms to manage logistics can enable farmers to get their products to market faster and at a lower cost.
“Exploring innovative farming techniques to increase productivity is a game-changer in the sector from precision irrigation to vertical farming and smart farming practices,” he said.
He urged farmers to adopt these innovative techniques to reduce costs and boost productivity and profitability. (NAN)
