The Kwara State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development, empowerment, and nation-building, assuring members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) of continued support throughout their service year.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq gave the assurance on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC orientation camp in Kwara State. The oath of allegiance was administered by the Chief Judge of the state, represented by Justice B. Lawal.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Amb. Ndanusa Usman Shehu, the governor urged corps members to maximise the opportunities provided during the orientation programme and their service year. He encouraged them to acquire new skills, build character, and contribute meaningfully to national development.
He also reaffirmed the state government’s continued support for the NYSC scheme and advised the corps members to uphold values such as discipline, patriotism, integrity, and responsible conduct throughout their stay in the state.
Governor AbdulRazaq commended the NYSC management for its role in shaping young graduates into responsible citizens. He further encouraged the corps members to actively participate in skill acquisition programmes, community development initiatives, and other activities that would prepare them for leadership and self-reliance.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Amb. Ndanusa Usman Shehu, represented by the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply, Hajia Okanla Kuburat Atinuke, welcomed the corps members to Kwara State. He described the state as peaceful and full of opportunities, urging them to take advantage of the service year to develop practical skills, explore entrepreneurship, and leverage digital platforms for visibility.
He noted that the 21-day orientation course is designed to instil discipline, teamwork, leadership, and patriotism, while assuring the corps members of their welfare and security through collaboration with security agencies and host communities.
Also speaking, the Kwara State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Musa Kafarda, urged the corps members to embrace discipline, personal development, and capacity building. He described the orientation programme as a critical period for preparing them for the service year.
Kafarda disclosed that a total of 2,205 corps members, comprising 1,065 males and 1,140 females, took the oath of allegiance, noting that it signifies a commitment to serving the nation. He added that the orientation course includes paramilitary drills, lectures, leadership training, and skill acquisition programmes aimed at grooming responsible nation-builders.
He encouraged the corps members to build meaningful relationships, engage in community development, and conduct themselves responsibly, reminding them that they represent their families, institutions, and the nation.
Dignitaries at the event included the Rector of Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abduljimoh Mohammed; heads of security agencies; members of the NYSC State Governing Board; religious leaders; government officials; and members of the press.
