Data and mobile money services fuel revenue surge to $6.4bn

Airtel Africa Plc has recorded a 114.67 per cent surge in pretax profit to $1.41 billion for the financial year ended March 31, 2026, driven by strong growth in data services, mobile money operations, and an expanding customer base.

The telecommunications giant’s revenue rose to $6.4 billion from $4.9 billion in the prior year, reflecting broad-based growth across its key business segments.

Data services emerged as the top revenue contributor, generating $2.5 billion, while voice revenue stood at $2.3 billion. Mobile money services also recorded significant growth, contributing $1.08 billion to the group’s total revenue.

The company’s customer base expanded by 10.5 per cent to 183.5 million subscribers, with data customers growing to 84.2 million. Smartphone penetration among its users improved to 49.5 per cent, underscoring the increasing adoption of digital services across its markets.

The Group Chief Executive Officer attributed the strong performance to the company’s strategic investments in digital technologies and artificial intelligence, which he said had enhanced operational efficiency and improved customer engagement across the continent.

The results signal a robust recovery and growth momentum for the pan-African telecom operator, as demand for mobile internet and digital financial services continues to rise across its operating markets.
