Shell, Daystar Power secure NOG energy awards for equality, sustainability
Daystar Power commended for clean power growth across five nations.
Shell and its subsidiary, Daystar Power, have received top honours at the 25th Nigeria Oil and Gas (NOG) Energy Week Conference and Exhibition in Abuja.
The awards was for their contributions to equality, diversity, inclusion and sustainable energy development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the awards were presented at the NOG Energy Awards ceremony on Wednesday night.
Shell received the Equality in Energy Award, while Daystar Power won the Sustainability in Energy Award in recognition of its decarbonisation initiatives.
Speaking after receiving the awards, Shell Executive Vice-President, Nigeria and Country Chair, Mr. Marno de Jong, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s energy industry through investments in deepwater oil and gas.
The awards they received was also for their investment in integrated gas, renewable energy and power solutions.
De Jong said the awards reflected Shell’s longstanding contributions to the country’s energy sector and its commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion.
According to him, the company has continued to create opportunities for women by appointing them to key leadership positions across its operations.
He added that Daystar Power was expanding access to clean energy through the provision of solar and hybrid power solutions for businesses in Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire.
The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Mr. Bayo Ojulari, congratulated the award recipients and commended stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the conference.
NAN reports that Shell, one of the major sponsors of the conference, also hosted a dinner and participated in the exhibition held as part of the event.
NAN further reports that the former Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SNEPCo), Ms. Elohor Aiboni, was recently appointed Executive Vice-President and Country Chair, Nigeria, becoming the first Nigerian to hold the combined position.
