President Tinubu Arrives in Brazil for Two-Day State Visit to Strengthen Nigeria-Brazil Relations

The Nigerian President’s visit to Brasília will focus on trade, aviation, agribusiness, security, and cultural exchange, with key MoUs and a landmark air services agreement on the agenda.

President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Brasília, Brazil, for a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Nigeria and Latin America’s largest economy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presidential aircraft, Nigerian Air Force One (NAF-001), popularly known as “Eagle One,” touched down at Brasília International Airport around 12:30 a.m. local time (4:30 a.m. Nigerian time) on Monday.

The President was warmly received by Carlos Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East; Carlos José Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s Ambassador to Nigeria; and key Nigerian government officials including Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

Upon arrival at his hotel in Brasília, President Tinubu was welcomed by several top Nigerian leaders: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abass; Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin; Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang; and ministers across finance, trade, defence, and technology portfolios.

High-Level Meetings and Engagements

President Tinubu is scheduled to meet with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva at the Planalto Palace for bilateral talks. Both leaders will witness the signing of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and hold a joint press conference.

Other key engagements include:

  • A meeting with the President of the Brazilian Senate at the National Congress

  • A courtesy visit to the President of the Chamber of Deputies

  • Discussions with the President of the Supreme Federal Court

  • Participation in the Nigeria-Brazil Business Forum

President Tinubu’s agenda in Brazil will focus on:
Aviation – including the signing of a landmark Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) to establish direct flights between Nigeria and Brazil.
