MAN Ex-Chairman Alarmed by IBEDC Strike, Warns of Production Disruptions

Adegbite Calls for Power Sector Privatisation to Improve Service Delivery

A former Chairman, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Ogun Chapter, Dr Wale Adegbite, has expressed concern over the industrial action embarked upon by workers of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

Adegbite said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Ota that the development would disrupt production by manufacturers.

He explained that manufacturers would have no choice but to use generators which cost much and also increased the cost of production.

“We need more competition in the provision of electricity to provide better service to consumers, ” he said.

The ex-MAN chairman appealed to the Federal Government to totally privatise the power sector so that Nigerians could have reliable power supply across the country.

NAN reports that the staff of IBEDC on Thursday began an indefinite strike in Ogun, demanding implementation of the new minimum wage, remittance of pension and Cooperative deductions. (NAN)
