Kwara Governor’s Wife Emphasizes Importance of Routine Vaccination

Kwara First Lady encourages residents to utilize free vaccination services at primary healthcare outlets.

The wife of Kwara State Governor, Prof. Olufolake AbdulRazaq, affirmed on Friday in Ilorin the importance of routine vaccination in preventing and transmitting diseases.

AbdulRasaq made this submission during an awareness and advocacy walk for the measles and rubella vaccine introduction, which was organized by her office.

She said these were diseases that could also lead to adverse outcomes such as blindness, pneumonia, and encephalitis if not prevented and treated early.

AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Oluwakemi Afolashade, cited reports from the World Health Organisation (WHO) showing that measles and rubella were highly contagious and viral diseases.

WHO had said, despite the availability of safe and effective vaccines, that the diseases remained a major cause of death, especially among young children globally.

“I commend Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s administration for putting the healthcare system on the frontline of action and also making it accessible to the people by providing free measles and rubella vaccination in all primary healthcare outlets in the state.

“I enjoin individuals, including children, adults, and pregnant women, to present themselves for routine vaccination for a disease-free society,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ministry of Women Affairs staff, members of the Red Cross and Girls Brigade, and religious and political groups, among others, attended the walk.
