Kwara Cleans Up to Beat Floods
State Urges Residents to Participate in Sanitation Drive Ahead of Rainy Season

The Kwara Ministry of Environment has said residents in the state would be mobilised for the end of month sanitation exercise to clean drains and channels in order to avert flooding.
This is contained in a statement by Mrs Shakirat Muritala, Press Secretary of the Ministry, made available to newsmen on Tuesday, in Ilorin.
Muritala appealed to residènts of the state to prepare to come out and clean their environment during the sanitation exercise on Saturday.
“I hereby inform the public that the monthly Environmental Sanitation Exercise for April has been scheduled to be held on Saturday, April 26, between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
“Residents within the state capital and local government areas are therefore enjoined to fully participate in the exercise, by clearing their residential and business environments, to ensure a clean and healthy environment,” Muritala said.
The Press Secretary said that the exercise would involve community-based cleaning of drainages and waterways, as part of the state’s preparedness for the rainy season.
She further said that the cleaning was to ensure free passage of water to avert flooding when it rains.
Muritala solicited the maximum cooperation of all community associations, residents, and house owners to be physically involved in the cleaning exercise.
She said that people’s participation would enhance the cleanliness of gutters and the clearing of debris around their residences and business premises, as well as allow free flow of water.
The Press Secretary also reminded the public that vehicular and human movement would not be allowed during the exercise, except for emergencies or those on essential duties.
“We shall be providing additional vehicles to convey debris and waste to government-approved dump sites.
“Residents of the state should feel free to contact the ministry to clear such wastes from communities, during and after the sanitation exercise,” she said. (NAN)
