Kwara Emphasizes Judicial Independence and Efficiency in New Legal Year

Governor AbdulRazaq Vows to Support Modernization of Courts

Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara has reaffirmed his commitment to justice delivery and judicial reforms, as the state judiciary marked the commencement of the 2024/2025 legal year.

AbdulRazaq, at a special court session on Tuesday at Kwara High Court, Ilorin, commended the judiciary for its unwavering dedication to upholding justice.

 

The governor, represented by his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, noted that the strong relationship between the executive and judicial arms had led to the seamless operation of the recently established small claims court.

 

He congratulated the newly-appointed judges and recalled that his administration appointed 11 high court judges in the last five years, and administered Oath of Office to the current chief judge and grand khadi.

 

AbdulRazaq assured that judicial welfare remained a top priority, and said his administration was constructing a modern courthouse named after Kwara’s first Chief Judge, Justice Saidu Kawu.

 

“With the new legal year underway, we are committed to strengthening the judiciary and enhancing access to justice across all courts in Kwara, no matter the level.

 

“Continue to make Kwara proud and the government will also key into smooth judicial reforms,” he said.

 

Earlier, the Kwara Chief Judge, Justice Abiodun Adebara, expressed gratitude to AbdulRazaq for his unwavering support and reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to upholding justice and efficiency.

 

Adebara described the relationship between the judiciary and executive in the state as a testament to a shared commitment to democracy, justice, and citizens’ welfare.

 

He noted that the ongoing construction of a modern courthouse, comprising ten courtrooms and chambers woukd significantly ease space constraints upon completion.

 

“We are better equipped to deliver justice efficiently and effectively, and we look forward to continued collaboration to tackle emerging challenges,” he said.

 

Also, rhe Kwara Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Suleiman, urged chief judge not to relent in his quest to reform the system and to ensure “quick but objective dispensation of justice”.

 

Suleiman also commended the judges for their sacrifices and national role in assuring the dispensation of justice without fear or favor, despite the exigency of time and the binding factor. (NAN)
