Ilorin, Kwara State – A decisive move by the Kwara State government has sent ripples through the local business community as the Taskforce Committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages commenced the forceful removal of unauthorized advertising structures across the metropolis.
This action follows the government’s revocation of all 2024 billboard permits and a subsequent seven-day ultimatum for voluntary removal, signaling a zero-tolerance stance towards non-compliance.
The enforcement, driven by the administration’s Urban Renewal Programme, aims to create a cleaner and more organized urban environment.
Key locations, including Unity Road, Post Office, and Fate Roundabout, witnessed the removal of illegal structures, highlighting the government’s commitment to its urban beautification agenda.
Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, the Commissioner for Communications and Taskforce Committee Chair, acknowledged the commendable cooperation from many billboard owners who proactively removed their structures.
However, she issued a stern warning: “No new billboards should be erected or signages put up until further notice.” This directive underscores the government’s resolve to enforce its regulations, emphasizing that any violation will be met with “serious consequences, according to the dictates of the law.”
