Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, on Friday, launched the distribution of multimillion-naira instructional materials and sports kits to pupils of primary and junior secondary schools in the state.
AbdulRazaq, represented by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajiya Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, said the programme was one in a series of the government’s commitment to basic education.
He said he was convinced that the menace of out-of-school children would be a thing of the past due to the government’s commitment to education development in the state.

He said the distribution of textbooks was basically to lessen the burden of the children’s education on the parents amid the high cost of instructional materials in the market.
He cited regular recruitment and promotion of teachers, the upgrading of schools’ infrastructure, among other interventions and efforts by the administration to turn the sector around.
He praised the officials of the Universal Basic Education Commission and other key stakeholders for their regular support and commitment to the project.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Kwara House of Assembly Committee on Education, Mr Muhammad Salihu, described the event as another historic moment in the development of basic education in the state.
He commended the governor for consistently investing in the education sector.
“With this and many other developmental projects, it is obvious that the state has moved from the ugly past.
“A lot of gaps have been filled in several sectors,” Salihu said.
Also, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Prof. Sheu Adaramaja, commended the governor for his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving basic education in the state.
Adaramaja said the distribution of school materials and sporting kits would provide quality education and promote holistic development in the pupils.
“These materials will undoubtedly enhance the standard of education and sports activities in our basic schools, bringing relief to parents, pupils, and students across the state.
“We firmly believe that education is the bedrock of any development.
“Our goal is to build our children into worthy future leaders who will drive positive change in our state and beyond,” the SUBEB boss said.
