He explained that the establishment was a government agency responsible for setting and enforcing quality standards across various industries in the country.

According to him, SON is the sole statutory body responsible for standardizing and regulating the quality of all products in Nigeria.

“The organization has to certify products that meet requirements to standards, through Mandatory Conformity Assessment Program (MANCAP) and SON Conformity Assessment Program (SONCAP) schemes, for on-shore and off-shore products respectively,” he said.

The SON D-G told the students that in organizing businesses, they must strive to adhere to details and equip themselves with the use of modern technology.

He observed that the world had moved to a single global market, noting that “dominance and customer retention” was the key.

According to him, the business world is a global market, aided by social media, which has made it easy.

“In venturing into the business world, you must be guided by some principles which include safety of users and products, transparency, integrity, coherence, consensus, relevance, effectiveness, among others,” he said.

Okeke pledged the support of the agency in further training of students during their Industrial Training (IT), and further collaboration with the university in certifying their business venture.
