Besides the goal of profit-making, every business desires to be seen. We want the spotlight to shine on our businesses. We want our products to sell out as quickly as possible. But here’s the hard truth we often ignore: visibility without preparation will expose your weaknesses as a business person. 

In other words, of what essence is the desire to gain visibility for your business when you are not prepared for it? That in itself is a waste of effort, time, and money.
Before you seek visibility for your business, ensure you’ve done the necessary groundwork. Otherwise, you’re just setting yourself up for a costly mistake.

Here’s a quick checklist before you seek visibility for your business:

1. Is Your Product or Service Ready for Visibility?

There is no doubt that good branding can get you the attention your business needs, but only quality delivery can keep it. Quality in your product and service takes priority when it comes to sustaining the visibility you desire for your business.

Think of well-established brands that have gotten the kind of visibility you seek and ask yourself what they are doing to remain relevant in the game.

Ask yourself:
• Is my product/service worth the hype I want to generate?
• Can it compete with others in my niche in terms of quality?

2. Are Your Systems and Structures in Place?

Visibility means more demand, and demand comes with pressure. For instance, after you’ve run an ad for your business, you get leads that have been converted, and then they begin to demand your products/services. The questions to ask are;

Do you have:
• Reliable delivery systems?
• A clear customer support process?
• Enough capacity to handle increased orders?

This is not to scare you; instead, it is meant to help you know that visibility is not just a thing you wish for and leave it to take care of itself. It may seem glamorous on the outside, but it requires a lot of deep work in the background. If you don’t have the systems and structures in place, fix that first. Visibility will break you if your backend is shaky.

3. Is Your Brand Message Clear?

Whether you run a small company or a multibillion-dollar brand, confusing your customers will cost you more money. Imagine hundreds of people landing on your page after seeing your ad, and they still don’t understand what you do. How many of your team members can explain how you help your customers survive and thrive?

How many people are buying from your competition because they’ve got a better and clearer brand message than you have? And how long will you last if you keep talking about the aspects of your products or services that your customers don’t care about?

• Define and make your message clear.
• Make sure your social pages, bio, and offers are clear and consistent.

4. Do You Have a Follow-Up System?

A follow-up system is what turns strangers into customers, and customers into loyal fans. It’s not enough for people to see your offer; you need a strategy that keeps the conversation going until they’re ready to buy and even after they do.

Let’s assume 1,000 people see your business today, maybe through an ad, a shoutout, or influencer marketing. What systems are in place to capture and convert them? In business, attention without conversion is just noise.

Here’s what to do:

Capture their details. How are you collecting their contacts? Is it through emails, WhatsApp contacts, or leads into a CRM? To do it better and effortlessly, you can adopt a simple lead magnet like a free resource, a discount code, or free consultations. 

Automate the nurture process. One thing your system should continue to do is engage your leads even when you’re not online. This could be through email sequences, WhatsApp broadcasts, or DM responders.

Segment your audience. The truth is, your audience is not at the same level of interest when it comes to your business. Some need more education, and others need urgency. A good follow-up system tailors communication to where they are in the buyer journey.

Use reminders and retargeting. People forget, therefore, you must always show up in their faces, not in the most annoying manner though. To do this, re-market to those who engaged with your content, clicked on your offer, or abandoned their cart.

Track what works. Is your WhatsApp link converting better than your email form? Is your DM reply too slow? A follow-up system is only as effective as the feedback you collect and use. So, know what works and what does not. Rinse and repeat what works.

5. Are You Personally Ready for the Demands?

More visibility means more pressure. More questions. More criticism. More customers to manage. The question is do you have the qualities to handle that pressure? Do you have the resilience, grit, adaptability, and perseverance to keep going in the face of ups and downs? Before you seek visibility for your business, ask:
Am I emotionally and mentally prepared for the responsibility that comes with this attention?

The goal isn’t just to be seen. The goal is to be ready when people start looking. More so, visibility will amplify everything about your business: your offers, your customer experience, your mindset, and your flaws.
