The Kwara House of Assembly urged the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to ensure compliance with setback procedures in the installation of transformers and high-tension wires on Wednesday.
The House, in its resolution after considering a report during its sitting in Ilorin, noted that such compliance would help secure people’s lives and property.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the House’s Committee on Public Petitions had submitted its findings on a petition titled “Save Our Soul (S.O.S)”.
The petition was brought by the Organisation of Muslim Unity of Nigeria, while the report was presented by the Chairman of the Committee on Public Petitions, Mr Lawal Salihu (APC/Ipaye/Malete/Oloru).
The House, thereafter, considered the report at the Committee of the Whole.
The lawmakers urged Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to direct the Ministry of Energy to immediately effect the relocation of the 33KVA high tension wire that passed through the group’s land.
“This will enable the organization to put the land to its intended use and forestall loss of lives and property,” the House noted.
It further urged the governor to direct the Ministry of Environment to ensure that Mickon Saw-Mill desisted from burning saw-dust within the area.
”This is to avert the health hazard the action constitutes to the members of the community,” the lawmakers said. (NAN)
